Bosch Refrigerator Easy Fix

Bosch Refrigerator Water Dispenser Issue

Is Your Bosch Refrigerator’s Ice or Water Dispenser Not Working?

Your Bosch refrigerator is one of the hardest working appliances in the home and something you probably can’t live without. If your fridge is not dispensing ice or water, do not give up – we can offer our refrigerator repair service. The first thing you should do before attempting any repairs, disconnect power and turn off the water supply for safety reasons.

Follow these simple tips to get your Bosch refrigerator ice and water dispensers working properly:

Check the water filter

When the water filter is clogged, it may cause no water at all or very slow water dripping from the dispenser. To maintain proper water flow, change the filter at least once in 6 months. Once you have replaced the water filter, test the dispenser for free water flow.

Check if the water pressure is sufficient

The home may have low water pressure. To operate properly, the water inlet valve requires from 20 to 120 psi. To help determine this, shut off the water supply, disconnect the supply line from the inlet valve, and hold the line over a bucket. Turn the water supply back on and observe whether or not there is a strong flow of water jetting out of the line. A weak flow indicates a problem with the water line or the water supply valve.

Make sure there is no air in the line

If your Bosch refrigerator has been recently installed, there may be air in the line. Push the water dispenser lever down for 3 minutes. For this period, the water reservoir will fill up completely. If water still does not dispense, make sure the water supply line is connected to the refrigerator properly and the water pressure meets the requirements for your refrigerator model. You can find instructions in the user manual. If further assistance is needed, call to schedule an appointment with our professional refrigerator repair technician.

Make sure the water supply tube is not frozen

A frozen water supply tube leading to the icemaker tray or the water dispenser can also impede dispenser functions. You can heat the supply tube by heating it with a hairdryer, but be aware that a frozen supply tube is usually caused by insufficient water pressure or a defective inlet valve.

Check if the water line valve is open

For refrigerator to receive water, the water line valve to your refrigerator should be completely open.

Check freezer temperature

For the ice-maker to work properly, the freezer temperature should be set between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit or -18 to -15°C.

Possible faulty hardware that could be causing issues.

Faulty dispenser switch

The dispenser switch sends voltage to the dispenser. The switch, actuated by the dispenser lever, could be faulty. Depending on the model, you may be able to use a multi-meter to test the switch for continuity a continuous electrical path present in the switch. If the switch tests negative for continuity, it will need to be replaced.

Defective ice dispenser control board

If all of the dispenser functions are disrupted, then the ice maker control board itself may be defective. While the board cannot be easily tested, you can inspect it for signs of burning or shorted out component.

Malfunctioning door switch

The door switch disables the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is open. A malfunctioning door switch may prevent the dispenser from operating even when the door is closed. As with the dispenser switch, you can use a multi-meter to test the door switch for continuity to determine if the switch has failed electrically.

Faulty water inlet valve

The water inlet valve opens to supply water to the dispenser. The inlet valve can fail both mechanically and electrically. A mechanical failure could be caused by the build-up of mineral deposits, preventing the valve from opening. If this happens, the valve will need to be replaced. Trying to clean out an old valve is not recommended due to the risk of part failure after repair. To determine if the inlet valve has failed electrically, use a multi-meter to test the valve solenoid coils for continuity. If one or more of the coils test negative for continuity, the inlet valve will need to be replaced.

Defective main control board

A defective main control board could result in the ice or water dispenser not working. As with the dispenser board, you can inspect the main board for signs of burning or a shorted out component and replace it with a new one provided all of the other dispenser components are working properly.

According to research from the spruce website, you can reduce the amount of water you use in your home using the water dispenser.

If you pay for water by the gallon, a water dispenser will eliminate running the faucet for several seconds to draw cold water. Save your money and improve water quality with your properly working water dispenser.
